First five minutes
Water where it shouldn’t be?
Do these first. Then call, and we’ll stay on the line until a plumber is on the way.
Burst or leaking pipe
- Shut off the water at the main. In most Northern Colorado homes it’s in the basement or crawl space, where the line comes through the foundation, often near the water heater. A round handle turns clockwise until it stops. A lever turns a quarter turn, until it sits across the pipe.
- Open the lowest faucet in the house, then one upstairs. That drains what’s left in the pipes away from the leak.
- Keep water and electricity apart. If water is near outlets, lights or the panel, switch those circuits off at the breaker, but never stand in water to do it.
Water heater leaking
- Close the cold-water valve above the heater. It’s on the pipe going into the top of the tank. Handle clockwise, or lever across the pipe.
- Turn the heater off. Gas: turn the dial on the gas control to OFF. Electric: switch off its breaker.
- Stay clear of the water. It can be hot enough to scald. If the tank itself is leaking, it needs replacing; put a bucket under it and call.
Frozen pipe
- Leave the faucet open and find your main shutoff. A frozen pipe may already be split, and you’ll only find out as it thaws.
- Warm the pipe gently. A hair dryer, or a space heater in the room, starting at the faucet end. Never a torch or any open flame.
- Open cabinet doors under sinks on outside walls so the room’s heat reaches the pipes. If you see a bulge, a split or any water, shut off the main and call.
Sewer backing up
- Stop running water everywhere. No flushing, no laundry, no dishwasher. Every gallon you send down comes back up.
- Keep people and pets out of it. It’s sewage. Wash anything it touched.
- Leave the cleanout cap on. If you know where your cleanout is, tell us when you call. Opening it yourself can make a bad day worse.

Know your home
Where your water goes
Six things worth finding before you need them. If you learn only one, make it the main shutoff.
- Main shutoffThe one valve to know. It stops all water to the house.
- Pressure regulatorKeeps street pressure from wearing out your fixtures.
- Water heaterMost tanks last 8 to 12 years.
- Supply linesCold and hot, under pressure all day.
- VentLets drains breathe. Gurgling means it can’t.
- Cleanout & sewerWhere a clogged main line gets cleared.
How it works
What happens when you call
-
A person picks up
During office hours that’s our dispatcher in Fort Collins. After hours it’s the plumber on call. No phone tree either way.
-
You hear what the visit costs
The $79 visit fee and your arrival window, plus the after-hours fee if there is one, before you agree to anything.
-
We tell you we’re on the way
A text with your plumber’s name when the truck leaves the last job. Boot covers go on at your door.
-
You get the price in writing
We find the cause, show it to you, and write the price down. It doesn’t change unless the job does, and then we ask first.
-
We fix it, test it and clean up
Water back on, joints checked under pressure, old parts hauled away. The visit fee comes off the bill, and the work is covered for a year.

Why “Sidehill”
Local plumbers who say the price first
A house on a sidehill teaches you plumbing early. Water runs one way, heat rises the other, and every pipe has to be told which is which.
Wes Halvorsen grew up in one west of Fort Collins, started in the trade in 2003 and opened Sidehill eight years later. The rule hasn’t changed since: know where the water is going, and say what it will cost before the work starts.
- The price in writing before any work
- A person answers, no phone tree
- A text when your plumber is on the way
- Boot covers on at your door
- Permits pulled and inspections met
- Work covered for a year

Questions
Straight answers
Yours isn’t here? Call (970) 555-0187 and ask.
Do you charge to come out?
Yes. The $79 visit fee covers the trip and the diagnosis. If you go ahead with the repair, it comes off the bill.
What does an after-hours call cost?
Outside office hours there’s a $149 after-hours fee on top of the repair. We tell you that on the phone, before anyone drives out, along with what you can safely do to wait until morning.
Can you give me a price over the phone?
We’ll give you the starting price and tell you what would change it. The exact price is written down once a plumber has seen the job, and you approve it before work starts.
Is the work guaranteed?
Our workmanship is covered for one year, in writing on your invoice. Parts and fixtures carry their maker’s warranty, and we handle the claim if one fails.
Do you pull permits?
Water heater and boiler replacements, repipes and sewer repairs usually need one. We pull the permit and meet the inspector. The permit fee is its own line on your quote.
How do I pay?
Card, check or cash, when the job is done and you’ve seen it working. No deposit on repairs.
